Community
Establishing a positive classroom community is vital. We know from research and experience when a person feels connected and valued by a community that person is more likely to be engaged, cooperative and willing to work toward the goals of the community.
Typically when community building is discussed images of group games and “getting to know you” activities is the first thing that comes to mind. Those are important and huge parts of community building, but can sometimes feel burdensome. Teachers often have an overwhelming amount of tasks to achieve and content to cover. Many times relationship building activities get pushed to the side because we feel that we can not stop or delay instruction. The resources you will find in this community building section are designed to be streamlined into content so that you can build relationships without stopping instruction.

We also know that many maladaptive behaviors can come from a place of insecurity. When we feel connected to and accepted by those around us with tend to be more cooptative and more engaged in completing tasks within the community. Helping students increase connections within the community and increase their personal self- esteem excellent ways establish an overall positive classroom community.
